We all thought that when social media appeared, it would make traditional marketing and most likely email marketing disappear.
The truth is, that contrary to predictions, email lists and newsletters are being one of the tools increasingly used by many companies, due to their functionality and great effectiveness.
So, after working in the Vaquero Newsletter, researching this week for a long time, reading thousands of contents and subscribing to different newsletters.
I decided to write a Blog about how to create more successful Newsletters.
The first part of creating a successful newsletter is deciding which category of these 3 you will be in.
And be very careful that it does not fall into the fourth category, the sales newsletter.
1 . New value
This type of newsletters (or bulletins) consists of sending your subscribers new content, never seen before and almost always pure text through the newsletter.
It is basically a blogpost. But, instead of writing it on your blog, you will send it by mail.
The purpose of this type of newsletter is that people will subscribe to it only because they get that extra content that is nowhere else.
2 . Collected content
Today there is so much information on the internet that it is really hard to find information that is really valuable.
This is basically what newsletters with collected content are like.
A series of links found on the internet, always preceded by a personal opinion.
The links that are sent are not produced by the author of the newsletter, they are third party content.
People subscribe to these types of newsletters to remove the noise from the internet and have someone else summarize the most important things in a simple way.
3 . Recycled content newsletter
The recycled value newsletters consist of taking all the pieces of content that you created through your blog, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc etc etc and distribute them by email.
None of the content is new and everything is content by the same author who produces the newsletter.
Subscribers of this type are there because, if the content produced is good, they will want to consume it.
So this newsletter is a way to make sure you stay on top of content from a certain author.
4 . Sales Newsletter
Although in the 3 types of newsletters above you can talk about sales and put a link or two of this style, 90% of the content has to be of value.
That is what makes your newsletter attractive to generate a large subscriber base, value.
Now, if you send a weekly or monthly email in which you only send your new products, branches or discounts … you are not sending a newsletter, you are sending a promotional email.
Very few people proactively want to subscribe to a promotional email. Therefore the initiative will not work and you will not sell much.
So if you want to have a successful newsletter you have to focus only on one thing, deliver valuable content through it.
